Yesterday, the Maryland National Guard dedicated a new monument at Camp Fretterd Military Reservation. It honors seven fallen members of the Maryland National Guard. WJZ-TV Channel 13 in Baltimore has a very nice article and video.
I was also sent some pictures.
The granite tablet on the left.
It reads:
THE MARYLAND NATIONAL GUARD
PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING
CAMPAIGNS IN SUPPORT OF THE
GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR:
OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM
The granite tablet on the right.
It reads:
“WHEN YOU GO HOME,
TELL THEM OF US AND SAY
FOR THEIR TOMORROW,
WE GAVE OUR TODAY.”
- THE KOHIMA EPITAPH“NO GREATER LOVE HAS ANYONE
THAN THIS, THAT HE LAY DOWN
HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.”
-ST. JOHN 15:13“THEY ARE DEAD, BUT THEY LIVE
IN EACH PATRIOT’S BREAST,
AND THEIR NAMES ARE ENGRAVEN
ON HONOR’S BRIGHT CREST.”
- HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW
In front and between the granite tablets is a bronze sculpture with inverted rifle, helmet, and boots. The plaque above the names reads:
“Fallen Warrior”
We honor those who made the ultimate
sacrifice while serving their nation and state. We will never forget
Maryland’s citizen-soldiers who gave their all:
