Ex-Marine Murtha (Not former Marine Murtha, EX-Marine Murtha.  In the Marine Corps that’s a significant difference.) was given a citation for his “selfless devotion to the Nation’s Sailors and Marines…”?   Really?  For his devotion to repeatedly claiming on national television that eight United States Marines were cold-blooded killers?

That would be these eight Marines he’s taling about. From the Don’t Honor John Murtha Petition to the Secretary of the Navy:

Eight Marines were originally charged. As of March 17th, 2009 all charges were dropped against six Marines, one was found not guilty on all counts in courts martial. The prosecution has delayed the court martial of the final defendant indefinitely. The original allegations of a massacre and the statements of Congressman Murtha have been thoroughly discredited. Despite the facts, John Murtha refuses to apologize to those he slandered.

Is this citation really about Murtha’s devotion to United States Sailors and Marines?

Sign the Petition. I already did.

Remember the Fallen

241 Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers killed on October 23, 1983 by Islamists in the Beirut barracks bombing.  There’s a reason it’s called the Long War.  (h/t B5)

As it should be

Former Marine Jose Luis Nazario Jr. was found not guilty of murder by a civilian jury in Riverside California.  He’d been charged with killing or causing “others to kill four unarmed detainees on Nov. 9, 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq, during some of the fiercest fighting of the war.”  It was a travesty that he was charged by a civilian prosecutor and tried in a civilian court.  If you’re unfamiliar with this case, Blackfive has a roundup of his prior posts on the matter, and links to The Captain’s Journal which highlights exactly why the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act should be abolished.  At the very least, it should be amended to exclude members of the Armed Forces.

Nancy Pelosi has hall monitors out in force.  On August 2, under a new, April 17 hallway policy issued by Pelosi, they recently censored a poster tribute to fallen Marines from Camp LeJeune that Rep. Walter Jones (R) from North Carolina had displayed outside his office in the Capitol Building (via Deebow @ B5).    More here, via Hot Air Headlines.

The Republican congressman now opposes the War in Iraq after initially supporting it. He has even called for President Bush to apologize for the war. It seems that it is not political opposition to his views of the war that spurned Speaker Nancy Pelosi D-CA to order the removal of the poster. They were on the same ideological team in that regard. So what was it about the poster that bugged the Speaker?
<…>
Mr. Fein, when reached for further comment explained that in the weeks before this incident, the Speaker had complained about the poster which rested on an easel. In response the congressman had removed it from the easel and hung it on the wall so it would not obstruct hallway traffic. Still the Speaker persisted and had it removed from the wall. Some observers consider that a direct affront to service members and veterans stemming from at best a callousness towards the intent of the placard, to recognize those who died for our country.

It’s not just about the poster though.  Democrats in the House have also been accused of attempting to limit the free of speech of our elected Representatives.  Do Americans really want another term for Speaker Pelosi?

Yesterday, Marine 1st Lt. Grayson was acquitted of charges in the Haditha cover-up case.

Grayson’s attorney, Joseph Casas, said he believed the verdict could influence pending prosecutions.

“I think it sets the tone for the overall whirlwind Haditha has been. It’s been a botched investigation from the get-go,” he said. “I believe in the end all of the so-called Haditha Marines who still have to face trial will be exonerated.”

Of the original eight Marines charged in the case, charges against five were previousoly dismissed. 1st Lt. Grayson, SSgt Wuterich, and Lt. Col. Chessani were ordered to face a court martial. With 1st Lt. Grayson’s acquittal, that leaves SSgt Wuterich and Lt. Col. Chessani. According to Defend Our Marines, Lt. Col. Chessani’s trial is scheduled for June 17, and SSgt. Wuterich’s has been indefinitely postponed. (Thanks to Josh for the LGF link)
